Age UK are delighted to have been chosen to partner the Bradford City Run 2010. This exciting new race will take you through the heart of Bradford and some of the stunning architecture this cosmopolitan city has to offer.
Whether you’re taking part in the 5k Fun Run or going for the full half-marathon, it will be a fantastic day with the city coming out in force to support people taking on a challenge and pushing their physical limits! It’s also a great opportunity for all the family to get involved with two races (3k and 1k) held especially for children, plus a special category for local schools.
We will be there on the day to cheer you around the route and if everyone taking part raised some money, we could achieve a great sum for the charity.
Why Age UK need your support
There are now more people in the UK aged 60 and above than there are under 18, and over 2 million pensioners are living in poverty.
Over 1 million older people cannot afford to heat their homes properly and some 20,000 older people die each year from cold-related illness. For some there is a stark choice: heating or eating.
Being old should not mean having to live on the breadline. We work tirelessly to reduce poverty wherever older people are suffering deprivation. We campaign for better state pensions and we demand an end to the scandal of avoidable cold-related winter deaths. Our dedicated helpline advises older people on accessing benefit entitlements.
What your money can do:
£10 could pay for a volunteer to visit a housebound older person who would otherwise be isolated
and alone.
£15 could pay for three older people to attend a day centre and have lunch, giving them the chance
to spend time with friends.
£30 could pay for a visit from one of our security experts to make an older person’s home safe and secure.
